Experiments

CanopyChaseSounds has several projects going on right now ranging from straight-up radio rock, to ambient film soundtracks, to experimental electronic music. However this page is about the experiments, or should we say the Experiments. You know, those musical explorations involving unstable chemicals, haphazard combinations, and mad scientists actively seeking unpredictable and exciting outcomes, for the betterment of humanity, history, or whatever. You can find samples of them here.

Adrift In Modular Series

This is a series of explorations in experimental electronic music, using modular equipment as the platform. The goal is to post weekly journal entries into CanopyChaseSound’s adventures/misadventures in this format as we attempt to be the first entity on earth to create predictable and repeatable music in Eurorack. Success is not most definitely not guaranteed, nor is likely, nor is it really that important – in this format the journey is definitely the destination. We call the style of music Hard Ambient Drift, because it’s contemplative, meandering, and evolving but it is also sometimes brash, tense, and edgy with frequent elements that don’t cleanly sit in the Western 12 tone scale, nor sit still and be good. Is it gritty? Yes. Is it unstructured? Mostly. Will it end up on the radio? No, probably not. Contact me if you have a radio spot you need to fill however, we’d love to provide some material and also discuss how and why you still run a radio station.

The Fortress Ambient

My friend Matt, with whom I collaborate on the project called The MJ (stay tuned for our upcoming release) said it was bad form to use the genre name in the band name and it was probably good advice. But we press on anyway. Currently, we are investigating Hard Ambient Drift in Native Instrument’s excellent Maschine+ hardware, with the eventual goal to merge the unstructured beautiful chaos of Eurorack with the more predictable and controllable workflow of Maschine to create the quintessential Hard Ambient Drift the world has been hungering for. Side note, if you’ve been hungering for Hard Ambient Drift, contact us because we’d love to meet you and see if you’re a one-off or if there are one or two others out there like you.
